About

Nautical Resume

  • I've owned too many boat(s).
  • I've been boating for 40 year(s).
  • I do most of my boating on lakes.

  • I use my boat for:

  • Cruise   find others...

    Limited small boat cruising.

  • Racing (Regata-Sail)   find others...

Extensive racing experience in one design sailing and ice boats!

I started racing dinghies as a teenager with an old wooden Sailfish that leaked like a sieve. Moving up into Sunfish, then Thistles, Luders Yawls, NY 36, Lasers, M16, M20, etc, what ever bath tub the local fleets were sailing. I hold my E-Scow Nationals finish of 40/120 with a pick up crew to be perhaps my best series, as there is not a tougher fleet in sailing than the E scow fleet. I sail OPBs (other people's boats) now, that is until I make a rash decision to buy that last boat for extensive cruising. I know how to design sails and have tried my hand at it a couple of times when I couldn't get exactly what I wanted or was trying out a concept.
A scows are probably the most fun you can have with your clothes on. There is just no match for the power and speed of sailing a 1800# boat at 25kts on apparent wind vectors like an ice boat. Oh BTW there is no keel, so the skill level needs to be pretty high for the crew and skipper. Although, it is said that with the Ascow's tiny rudders, the skipper is just a figure head on the wrong end of the boat.!!!
