You are too kind...and I completely hear you on waxing.

Cool. I'm not ready to bite off something this big just yet (you made good use of winter), but I'm definitely interested. I have the same problem you did on my rear cockpit: it's never clean, no matter how much cleaning I do. A synthetic might work pretty nicely, and it's a discreet area. We'll see. I did my entire pilothouse and salon interior floor in real wood last year, and that was a helluva project.

BTW, 5200 seems extreme for a job like this. You might want to get the stuff off the boat someday, without taking the deck too.

Good points, all. Honestly, I would not have thought about the bottom pattern. Seems like a pattern would be better, but hard to argue with a man who has actually done it -- and a nice looking job, too. I would have thought a lot about the adhesive itself. Brett, what did you use?

So it's like good tile -- the grooves provide more surface area for the adhesive?

I can appreciate truly clever spam, as nasty a practice as it is, in the same way I like a good TV commercial.
But Spam-I-Am up there isn't even trying. That approach is a la 1995.

Sounds right to me. A trailer boat will substantially increase the life, I would think. Depends too on what you are using. The Mainship stuff had a reddish look, unlike yours which looks really nice. As you said, probably beats real wood no matter what you do...

This is a really cool installation.
Some bigger boats, notably Mainship's 43 (now called a 45), are going with synthetics. I've always been curious how they hold up.
Be sure to let us know...
